✔ Experience and skill level – Established professionals generally charge more.
✔ Session length & location – Longer shoots and travel cost more.
✔ Number of final images – More delivered photos often means higher prices.
✔ Retouching and editing – Professional editing takes time and expertise.
✔ Products included – Prints, albums, wall art and gifts add value and cost.
Here’s how to choose the right photographer for you:
Browse portfolios — check for consistent lighting, flattering posing, and natural moments. Look for a style that matches your vision.
Testimonials and social proof tell you how clients experienced working with the photographer — from friendliness to delivery times.
A great photographer explains how they prepare you, what to wear, how long the session will be, and how long delivery takes.
Don’t just look at the cheapest option — compare what’s included. Some photographers charge more but include more value (retouching, prints, extras).
A portrait session is a personal experience — choose someone you feel comfortable around. A good connection leads to more relaxed, authentic photos.
A typical portrait session lasts between 45 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the type of shoot, number of outfits, and whether multiple locations are used. Mini sessions are shorter, while full portrait or branding sessions allow more time to relax and get natural results.
Wear something that feels like you and makes you comfortable. Neutral colours, soft tones, and simple patterns photograph beautifully. Avoid strong logos or busy prints. Your photographer should guide you before the session with outfit tips tailored to your style and purpose.
Yes. Professional photographers carefully edit and retouch images, adjusting light, colour, and skin tones while keeping everything natural. Editing is an important part of creating polished, high-quality portraits.
This depends on the photographer and package. Most portrait sessions include 5–30 professionally edited digital images, with the option to purchase additional photos or prints.
Most photographers deliver galleries within 1–3 weeks. Some offer faster delivery for an additional fee. Always ask about turnaround time before booking.
Some photographers include digital files in their packages, while others offer them as add-ons. Always check what’s included — resolution, usage rights, and whether prints are part of the package.
Absolutely. Many portrait photographers specialise in family and children’s portraits and know how to create a relaxed, fun experience. Let your photographer know in advance so they can plan accordingly.
Studio portraits offer controlled lighting and a clean, timeless look.
Outdoor portraits feel more natural and relaxed, using natural light and real locations.
Both are beautiful — it depends on the style you love.
Not at all. A professional portrait photographer will guide you through poses, expressions, and movements so you feel comfortable and confident — even if you’ve never been photographed before.
A professional photographer brings experience, lighting knowledge, posing guidance, and high-quality editing, creating images that truly reflect you — far beyond what a phone or quick snapshot can achieve.
It’s best to book 2–6 weeks in advance, especially during busy seasons like spring, summer, and before Christmas. Popular photographers can book up quickly.
